Wallpapers of the week: The Force Awakens iPhone wallpapers

Star Wars The Force Awakens Wallpaper splash iDownloadBlog

The week is finally arrived. This Friday, December 18, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit theaters. With more than $500M in ticket presales, the next installment in the Star Wars saga is prepared to shatter box office records, making it one of the most highly anticipated films in history.

It comes as no surprise the film is so popular, given the smashing success of the franchise since the 1970’s. Now with Disney’s backing, it is impossible to go anywhere, see anything, or watch TV without being pummeled by advertising. To ensure your entire life is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, download your favorite iPhone wallpapers from our collection.

This is what new Star Wars droid BB-8 would look like in space gray.

What if Jony Ive designed BB-8? Photo: Martin Hajek

With its roly-poly looks and infectious personality, new droid BB-8 looks primed to be a real scene-stealer when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters at the end of the year.

And now we know what the ballsy little bot would look like if Jony Ive replaced its orange-and-white color scheme with something a little more subtle.

The iDroid's iPhone 6-like styling is complemented by a light-up Apple logo. Photo: Martin Hajek

The iDroid concept art comes from forward-looking designer Martin Hajek, who has produced tons of Apple-inspired concept art in the past (including an Apple-ized lightsaber).

Writes Hajek on his blog unveiling his new BB-8 renders:

Introducing: iBB-A
With built in projector and circular touch-screen interface, it will be available in silver, gold and (of course) space-grey!

Want to have a go at designing your own droid? You can download the super-detailed 3D model of the BB-8.

While director J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens won’t premiere till December 18, the movie’s lovable new droid is already a fan favorite. There’s even a DIY project for making your own iPhone-controlled BB-8 model.

Now Hajek has shown how Apple design chief Jony Ive’s stylistic influences — which really did help shape The Force Awakens’ spitty new lightsaber — might look on sci-fi’s peppiest new droid.

As usual, Hajek makes his 3-D model available (for a price).

So, if you were in the market to buy a used BB-8 from some nasty little Jawas, which model would you get? Old-school orange-and-white? Or Apple-tastic silver, gold or space gray?

Apple plays up WWDC secrecy with mysterious session titles.

WWDCschedule

Apple is having some fun with the mystery surrounding its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, updating the WWDC app to include whimsical session titles designed to give devs a chuckle even as they’re guessing what’s next.

Just about the only solid piece of information from the app update is that Tim Cook and company will kick off the annual event with a special keynote June 2 at 10 a.m. Pacific in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Apple is expected to reveal details of iOS 8 and the next version of OS X during the address.

WWDC is a nerd Mecca where legions of iOS and OS X coders hone their skills alongside 1,000 of Apple’s top software engineers. Curiosity about this year’s conference is especially high because the company is long overdue for hardware updates. Rumors have targeted the Apple TV, MacBook Air and iWatch as prime candidates for announcements, although Cupertino is playing its cards close to the chest as per usual.

The WWDC app update plays on that hunger for hard news about what’s next for Apple. Rather than going with its traditionally boring “Session to be announced” titles before the big event, Apple’s WWDC sessions are peppered with secretive names that look like they were sourced directly from Katie Cotton’s outbox.

“No Comment,” “This One Is Sealed,” “Shhhh, Can’t Tell You Yet” and dozens of other secretive session titles will be replaced with their real names and descriptions after the keynote Monday, but for now developers will just have to guess where they should spend time at Moscone West.

Along with tons of sessions on coding, Apple will also host special sessions like the Apple Design Awards, “Star Wars Past, Present and Future” (featuring guests from LucasFilm), The Bash at Yerba Buena Gardens, “Stump the Experts” and “A Moment in Silence” with former NASA astronaut and NFL wide-receiver Leland Melvin.

full schedule of WWDC sessions and events can be found on Apple’s website, but if you didn’t get a golden ticket you’ll have to sneak into them on your own.

Grab your Lightsabers, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is half price on iPad!

If you’re looking for a great iPad game to play this weekend, then look no further. Legendary title, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is half price for a limited time only, making it yours for just $4.99. At that price, it’s too good to ignore, but it won’t be around forever.

Having first launched on Xbox back in 2003, Knights of the Old Republic quickly became something of a cult classic. It made the long awaited arrival on the iPad earlier this year, with an all new, touchscreen based control system. It’s a truly great game of our time, made even easier to recommend while on sale. Grab it while it’s hot, and may the force be with you!

Angry Birds Star Wars coming!

One might argue that this coming installment is pretty closely related to Angry Birds Space, but what do we know… According to a representative from Lucasfilm Ltd., the game will feature all new characters which are bird-like versions of Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Obi-Wan Kenobi… In the way of pig style opponents will be characters like Darth Vader and his stormtroopers.

We’ll just have to wait and see if it brings more to the table than a StarWars makeover. Knowing Rovio, we will probably get gameplay tweaks and new mechanics that will make it impossible not to play, because that’s just how they do it… Now is the time to make sure you’ve fully completed the first five installments of Angry Birds, because StarWars is coming out on November 8thand it will be available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, as well as Android and computers, too.
